The exclusive Giant’s Cup two-day trail run in the Southern Drakensberg gets underway on Friday with the select group of runners tackling the pristine trails of the Maloti Drakensberg National Heritage Site from 18 to 19 May.
Johannesburg resident and third place finisher at the 2017 Giant’s Cup Travis Green will be back for another crack at the 62km, two day race and this year will have his wife Fiona on the start line too when the race kicks off on Friday 18 May.
In the first edition of the UTD160, pre-race favourite Jock Green lived up to expectations as he dominated the field to win the flagship race of the Ultra-Trail® Drakensberg at Bushman’s Nek hotel on Saturday.
The 2018 Ultra-Trail® Drakensberg festival of trail running’s agenda appeals to runners from novices to the most hardened elite ultra-marathoners and has drawn runners from all over the world to the Southern Drakensberg for the running bonanza from Friday until Sunday.
The word amongst ultra-trail runners is that you don’t want the number one bib, but for first UTD160 entrant Debbie Densham, she will be ignoring this when she takes on her debut 100 Miler at the 2018 Ultra-Trail Drakensberg starting at the Lesotho border post on Friday.
